Dear Secretary Durand:

We are writing to express our appreciation to you for your decision on the BU sailing pavilion. This is the third time this year that we have occasion to thank you for taking a bold and decisive role in promoting environmentally responsible planning; the Municipal Harbor Plan and the Arborway Restoration were the others.

Your actions in these issues have been soundly based in your own independent analysis and straightforward assessment of long-term protection of the public realm. You have also been extraordinarily responsive to informed public advocacy, encouraging community people to continue to participate in public process. You have set a high standard for public service that we hope will guide other officials on in making decisions in the public interest.

We look forward to continued cooperation with you in the future, on other pressing issues that affect our environment and our communities. Sustainability and environmental justice are critical principles for community-building, and we are grateful to have an ally in you.

Sincerely,

Daniel Cushing,
President
