AGENDA
Level 4 BioDefense/BioTerrorism Laboratory in
the South End/Roxbury
Guest speaker: Gene Benson, Attorney, Alternatives for
Community and Environment
BU Medical Center has applied for and received funding for a Level 4 lab, to do research on deadly pathogens for which there is no known treatment, as part of the national "war on terrorism." This would locate a biodefense installation in a densely populated urban center, unlike all the others in the country.
What are the public processes required for such an installation, to assure public information and informed public consent? Which of these processes has been provided to the people of Boston to date?
What have been the City/BRA/BU provisions for public involvement?
What avenues are available for you to make your voice heard now?
For more information, see the series of reports on the website of the Sampan newspaper: www.sampan.org
Free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome -- come and bring your friends and neighbors!
